Oil on Canvas (2023)

16’x20”x1/2”

This painting was came to life arising from the insecurities I had when I shaved my head last month about potentially looking hideous and intertwined with my newfound resolve. Instead of focusing on the fears, I decided to have some fun with it. Inspired by my friend Najet’s face painting job,I wanted to bring to life those fears and in doing so, minimize them. I don’t know if this painting is finished yet and perhaps a different meaning will surface at some stage but for now this creature with my eyes hangs on my studio wall a symbol of one of my most vulnerable transformations and every now and again I look at it, laugh and say “I’m not afraid of you.”
