Expressive Arts Therapy

My Vision

I believe that the arts can serve as a powerful medium for personal transformation and collective well-being and after a lifetime of experiencing the magic of art making and the healing powers of creation, I am deeply committed to extending the arts healing potential to others.

As a queer mixed race individual, I possess a deep understanding of the intricate dynamics of race, and identity and I am passionate in using my unique perspective to work with folks who encounter additional challenges in their lives related to race, culture, gender, neurodivergence and sexuality and help them explore their emotions and challenges through artistic expression. I  offer a therapeutic space where I can acknowledge these complexities and help them explore their inner worlds in an environment that is safe, non-judgmental and culturally sensitive.

Through collaborative art projects, workshops, and therapeutic interventions, I aim to inspire others to delve into their imaginations, to unlock their creative potential and use it as a tool for self-discovery, emotional release, and personal growth.

What is expressive Arts Therapy?

Expressive Arts Therapy is a form of therapy that uses creative expression—such as painting, music, movement, writing, and drama—to help individuals process emotions, reduce stress, develop coping skills and promote healing. It is an alternative or complement to traditional talk therapy. Unlike talk therapy, which primarily relies on verbal communication, Expressive Arts Therapy encourages nonverbal expression through creative activities. This doesn't mean that we don't talk. But this approach can be especially helpful for people who struggle to put their feelings into words or want to expand their creative expression.

Who is EXA for?

Expressive Arts Therapy is beneficial for people of all ages, including children, teens, and adults. It can help with emotional processing, self-discovery, and personal growth at any stage of life. I welcome individuals from all backgrounds and sexual orientations and neurotypes. Anyone can benefit, but it’s particularly helpful for people dealing with anxiety, depression, trauma, stress, neurodivergence, self-esteem issues, or identity struggles. I aim to facilitate services that are geared towards those seeking to enhance their connection with happiness, wonder, and their creative faculties and rekindle their artistic expression.

Do I need to be good at art to benefit from this therapy?

No artistic skill is required! Expressive Arts Therapy focuses on the process of creation rather than the final product. It is gentle low-skilled work that's about self-expression, not artistic ability.

What types of creative activities are used in sessions?

Sessions may include painting, drawing, sculpting, movement, music, poetry, storytelling, and more. I believe in meeting people where they are and and tailoring the activities to each person’s needs and comfort level.
