Crayons (2022)
Crayons and paper 20”x24”
2022 was one of the most transformative years for me, one of emotional upheaval and personal discovery.
This year I really took the time to be with myself and this drawing was an art therapy excercize where I relived a moment from my childhood when I first learned to suppress any feeling of confusion I had about my mixed race identity.
This drawing was an inner resolution, a confrontation and an opener of dialogue with family members and friends. This definitely isn’t the best thing I’ve ever drawn but potentially one of the most important.
Little Adeline lives in my bedroom as i continue to nurture and be with my inner child, deepening my connection with myself. It serves as a daily reminder of the pure joy and creativity within and acts as a grounding force in moments of reflection, reinforcing the value of embracing every aspect of my identity.
