Dancing on my own
Oil on Canvas 18’x24'“x1 1/2”
Dancing on My Own" is a visual narrative that captures a profound chapter of self-discovery and newfound independence. This painting was born from a pivotal moment in my life when I moved into my very first place – a space where I was presented with the opportunity to really get to know myself.
The shadows trailing behind the drawing doll reveal a layered narrative of release and rebirth. And the two silhouettes, one male and one female, stand as symbolic remnants of relationships that were left behind, signifying the emotional steps taken to let go, to fully embrace the solo dance of self-discovery. They are also a subtle nod to the beginning of me exploring of my own gender expression. I feel like this was an important time of my life where I finally began to allow myself to blossom and thrive and find my authentic self.
